What Lucy Wants

I have a two year old now, so this season I had the opportunity of watching the Charlie Brown Christmas special for the first time in many years. There’s this scene where Charlie is talking to Lucy about how Christmas always makes him depressed. Lucy says that she gets depressed, too, because she clothes, dolls, toys and stuff, but never gets what she really wants. Charlie asks her what it is that she really wants, and she answers in two words: real estate.

I want real estate, too. I have no idea why Lucy wants it, but I can tell you why I want it. You see, to me, the ownership of real estate means security. It means a place to live, a permanent source of income, and a comfortable lifestyle. If I put in the necessary work and overcome the obstacles now, then real estate can provide me and my family with a secure future.

Decide now exactly why you want to own real estate. Think about it until you come up with a really good reason. Write that down. Any time you feel frustrated in your efforts to build a real estate legacy, take a look at your “why” statement. If you’ve got a good enough “why”, you’ll always find the how.
