In a time when we are all concerned about our credit standing, identity theft and accurate information regarding our financial standings, we all need to know exactly how our credit is being reported. Only in this way can we take the steps to correct inaccuracies and strengthen or standing in toughening credit markets. Recognizing that this is a real area of interest, there are those who would manipulate you into using their services through misleading advertising and promotion.
Unfortunately there are a number of service providers that still use the old tried and true technique of the bait and switch. They promise you one thing, but then deliver something entirely different. Free credit reports are an excellent example. You see the cute ads on television, recognize that you really should know what your credit report says, and so you take the bait and either call the number or open the web site. That’s when you get the hard sell switch to buying a different service offered, usually a credit monitoring service, (which is just their way of saying we’ll keep looking at your credit report and tell you if anything has changed) in order to get the promised “free” report. The charges for the various services range all over the board. The service is billed as a way to combat identity theft, rebuild your credit and protect your rating. In fact they could all serve this end. The thing that bothers me is that many of the companies that offer this service have misled me to get me into their trap. They said the credit report was free, but what they didn’t tell me was that I had to buy their service first to get it free, or I had to sign up for a series of reports that would cost me more and more as time goes on. I for one don’t like being misled and try not to do business with someone I can’t trust.
Rather than get caught in this spider web of marketing trickery, I suggest that if you want a free credit report, you actually get a free credit report. Yes it is possible and no you don’t have to buy anything else. The bottom line is that the only authorized source to get a truly free credit report under federal law, is AnnualCreditReport.com. This site provides you the opportunity to request a free credit report, once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies: TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian.
So if you want to get a free credit report and monitor your credit standing and without the surprises of attached fees, expenses, and long term commitments; go to http://www.AnnualCreditReport .com. You have a right to know what these agencies are saying about you. Now you can exercise your right free, the way free is supposed to be.
Good luck. We’re happy to help.
